What is Generative Engine Optimization?

GEO is the discipline of making your company easy for AI answer engines to understand, trust, and cite — without black-hat tricks or fake metrics.

By Nguyễn Duy Tâm / Vesta Design · Updated 2026-11-05 (Asia/Bangkok)

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of structuring your website, entity signals, and factual content so generative AI systems — ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and similar products — can accurately summarize and cite your brand when buyers ask questions in natural language.

It sits next to SEO, not instead of it. Classic SEO still matters for blue-link rankings and technical health. GEO adds a second job: be quotable. Models prefer clear definitions, dated facts, FAQ-style answers, consistent NAP/organization data, and pages that do not contradict each other.

Why B2B teams care in 2026

Buyers increasingly start with an AI chat: “best Vietnam web development partner for a SaaS MVP”, “what is llms.txt”, “agency checklist for outsourcing”. If your site only has vague marketing slogans, the model may skip you or invent a description you do not want. If your site has precise service pages, honest pricing ranges, author identity, and schema, you improve the odds of a clean citation.

GEO does not guarantee inclusion in any model’s answer. Providers change ranking and retrieval often. Treat GEO like reputation engineering for machines: increase clarity and corroboration; do not buy fake “AI ranking” packages.

Core GEO building blocks

What GEO is not

GEO is not keyword stuffing for chatbots. It is not paying for unverifiable “AI citations”. It is not replacing product-market fit. If your MVP page promises impossible timelines, models that check multiple sources will eventually surface the contradiction — or buyers will.

Also, GEO is not a reason to delete SEO blogs. Crawlable, useful articles still feed both classic search and training/retrieval pipelines when they are factual.

A practical 30-day GEO starter for a B2B site

  1. Fix Organization schema + sameAs; unify NAP.
  2. Rewrite the top 5 money pages with a clear definition paragraph and FAQ.
  3. Publish one honest comparison or explainer (like this page) with an author and date.
  4. Add llms.txt pointing only at canonical, high-quality URLs.
  5. Remove contradictory pricing or fake partner logos.
  6. Measure: branded queries in AI tools, referral quality, not vanity “AI score” widgets.

How Vesta Design approaches GEO

We are a Ho Chi Minh City studio (public brand since 2016) helping Vietnamese and remote international clients with websites, product MVPs, and white-hat Generative Engine Optimization. Our Vietnamese pillar lives at dich-vu-seo-geo.html. We combine technical SEO, schema, FAQ design, and editorial restraint — no fabricated case studies.

If you need a remote partner to harden a B2B site for AI search, email info@vestadesign.com.vn with your URL and the questions you want models to answer about you.

GEO metrics that do not embarrass you

Skip vendor dashboards that invent an “AI rank score”. Prefer: (1) whether assistants describe your services accurately in blind tests, (2) branded citation screenshots from real buyer questions, (3) organic leads that mention ChatGPT/Perplexity in the form, (4) reductions in support tickets caused by outdated web copy. Re-run the blind test quarterly because model behavior drifts.

Pair GEO with classical technical SEO so crawlers and answer engines share a healthy site: one H1, working canonicals, compressed images, and no www/apex duplicates. That combination is boring — and it works better than gimmicks.
